Thought for the day:
Luke 6:43-45 the message
“You don’t get wormy apples off a healthy tree, nor good apples off of a diseased tree. The health of the apple tells the health of the tree. You must begin with y our own lives. It’s who you are, not what you say and do, that counts. Your true being brims over into true words and deeds.
I have a confession to make. When I get startled or really angry, I swear….like a sailor. I don’t mean to, and I don’t swear in my everyday conversation. But when under pressure, these awful words come flying out of my heart.
Under pressure…that’s when the rubber meets the road and when what is truly in our hearts comes out. We can smile and be Joe Christian when everything is going our way. But let things go awry, and what happens? Well, it depends on what is in our heart.
The message Bible goes on to say in verses 48 and 49: “If you work the Words (of Jesus) into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who dug deep and laid the foundation of his house on bedrock. When the river burst its banks and crashed against the house, nothing could shake it, it was built to last. But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a dumb carpenter who built a house but skipped the foundation. When the swollen river came crashing in, it collapsed like a house of cards. It was a total loss.”
Under pressure…dear brothers and sisters, fill your heart with the Word of God. Fill your heart with His love. Pray for me and I will pray for you. So that when that river crashes against our house, God will come flowing out of our hearts.
